What is Smart Finance Family Manager (SFFM)?
Smart Finance Family Manager is a free web application for personal and household financial organization. It allows individuals, couples, and multi-generational families to track income, categorize expenses, log UPI reference numbers, enforce monthly category budgets, monitor savings milestones, and generate PDF financial statements.
Is SFFM completely free to use?
Yes. Smart Finance Family Manager is 100% free with no subscription tiers, paywalls, or hidden charges. We built it as a public utility to help households achieve financial peace of mind without having to pay monthly fees to manage their own money.
Does SFFM connect to my bank account or ask for netbanking passwords?
Never. SFFM is built on a privacy-first foundation. We never ask for your bank account credentials, debit card PINs, OTPs, or SMS read permissions. All records are entered voluntarily by you and your family members, ensuring zero risk of unauthorized bank access.
How does multi-member family sharing work?
When you register as a Family Head, a unique 6-character family invite code is generated. You can share this code with your spouse, parents, or adult children. When they create an account and input the invite code, they join your shared household dashboard with role-based permissions, allowing everyone to log expenses under their own name while sharing the joint budget.
What is the UPI Reference ID field and why is it useful?
Whenever you make a payment via Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, or CRED, your payment app generates a 12-digit UPI reference number. By recording this optional ID in SFFM, you can easily search and verify transactions later if a vendor or service provider questions whether a payment was completed.
How is my financial data protected?
Authentication is handled via Supabase Auth with bcrypt password hashing and TLS 1.3 encrypted JWT tokens. Database storage utilizes private Supabase PostgreSQL tables strictly protected by Row Level Security (RLS), meaning family records can only ever be accessed by verified members of that specific family.
Can I install SFFM on my mobile phone?
Yes! SFFM is a Progressive Web App (PWA). On Android, open https://sffm.pages.dev/ in Chrome and tap 'Install app'. On iPhone, open in Safari, tap the Share button, and tap 'Add to Home Screen'. You will receive a clean, full-screen app icon on your home screen without downloading anything from app stores.
Can I export my financial data?
Yes. SFFM includes a built-in PDF export tool. With one click from your dashboard, you can download a formatted, itemized monthly statement showing income, expenditures, category breakdowns, and net balances.
